My name is Adaluz Julia Veloz, though many of you may know me simply as Julie. I hail from the Dominican Republic, proud to be a first-generation Afro-Latina immigrant. My journey brought me to the gritty streets of Newark, NJ, where my parents sought a brighter future for our family. Despite the challenges, I toiled through high school, dedicating 32 hours a week to work, unsure of what lay ahead. Yet, within me burned a relentless belief in my potential, propelling me along the undefined path toward success that I still tread today.

Raised in modest means, my parents sacrificed tirelessly, laboring in grueling factory jobs to provide for our basic needs and education. Their dream was simple yet profound: to break the cycle of generational poverty and limited opportunities through sheer determination and hard work—a pledge I carry within me each day.

Mentorship, access, and sponsorship—these were unfamiliar concepts to me as I navigated the early stages of my career. I yearned for guidance from women, especially fellow Latinas, who could share their wisdom and experiences, illuminating the path ahead.

Every step I took was measured, for I lacked the safety net of familial connections or financial security. Failure was not an option, as it would not only impact me but also those who depended on my success.

Now, as an executive, my purpose is clear: to serve as a beacon for aspiring Latinas, bridging the gap between emerging talents and seasoned leaders. I strive to build a network of support, offering guidance and opportunities to those navigating similar waters.
